Glenn Dyer reports:
| The Winners | To put Wednesday night’s SBS win in some proportion, the Nine Network last night achieved a higher share: not as great an audience for any one program – it just blitzed the field. Thanks to RPA (1.626 million), 20 to 1 (1.615 million), Getaway (1.260 million), Nine News (1.226 million) and Amazing Medical Stories (1.187 million) Nine dominated the night. Seven’s best was Home and Away (1.225 million), Ten’s best was its 5pm News with 835,000, while the ABC’s best was the 7.30 Report with 834,000. It was a night when viewing levels were lower than on recent Thursdays, perhaps there was a bit of post World Cup soccer tiredness. |
| The Losers | Seven’s Headland with a plunge to just 830,000, down sharply from Tuesday night’s debut and Bill Connolly’s attempts to find New Zealand humour (769,000), plus everything on Ten after the news. It was a pity the doco, Political Football, on the ABC about the seven rugby union players who triggered the South African Springbok tour crisis back in 1971, couldn’t attract more than 442,000 people. |
| News & CA |
A winning night for Nine News and A Current Affair nationally. But in Sydney, another loss by Nine News to Seven and Today Tonight easily beat A Current Affair as well. Frustration for Willoughby. But not even solid wins in Perth by Seven could offset losses in Melbourne and Brisbane. Adelaide was split with Nine winning the news battle and Today Tonight beating ACA. The ABC 7pm News was watched by just 819,000 people. |
| The Stats |
Nine won with a share of 38.1% to 25.9% for Seven, 18.5% for Ten, 12.3% for the ABC and 5.1% for SBS. Nine won every market. |

Glenn Dyer’s comments |
As expected Nine just clobbered the opposition last night and will win the second last week of ratings, regardless of what is showing on TV tonight and tomorrow night. SBS is repeating Wednesday night’s World Cup soccer game tonight which will cause some disruption to viewing patterns. |
