Was out with wife (her birthday celebration) and 2 friends for Thursday (22nd
September) lunch at the Flower Drum restaurant in Market Lane Melbourne
when two businessmen arrived at the adjoining table within a few
minutes of each other… Michael Kroger then … Peter Costello. After a
few minutes of food and drink ordering ….the conversation turned to
Latham (surprise surprise) and with that the Treasurer pulls out a
couple of A4 sheets and proceeds to read from them to Mr Kroger. All
the while Kroger is tapping the table top and saying “he said what???”
in a most animated fashion whilst the treasurer continued reading
between giggles, stifled laughter and tears coming to his eyes with
statements such as “then Keating said…” etc. We could only surmise at
the time that he was reading Crikey’s running reports on The Latham Diaries.
