The bad news keeps flowing out of the Government in the glow of the health funding victory, under the cover of the biggest news week of the year so far and just before what will now presumably be a typical pre-election good news budget with several billion more in the kitty and forward estimates looking far healthier. More than a couple of journalists have noticed the supreme irony of the supposed “big new tax” CPRS actually costing the government several billion.

Meanwhile are Lindsay Tanner, Tanya Plibersek and Anthony Albanese considerably more nervous about their seats in parliament than they were a couple of days ago? Some would suggest they should be. Expect the words “absolute political cowardice” to appear on plenty of telegraph poles in St Kilda and Newtown.

Whatever you may think of the adulterers, the sign of the Premier and Opposition Leader in W.A. falling over themselves to insist Buswell’s departure was 100% about a couple of hundred dollars of allegedly misused travel allowance and nothing to do with the two politicians’ private lives, stretched credulity well past its breaking point.

Elsewhere, from looking severely overworked just a week ago, it now seems that Greg Combet has nothing to do, while Kate Ellis sneaks the kids out the back door in the middle of the storm.

Troy Buswell, who at least one journalist has previously claimed to be the only competent Minister in the W.A. Government, has flamed out spectacularly once again and the callers enjoyed analysing every minute of it.
