Is it a rogue poll? John Howard was behind six months before all his elections, is this any different? The widespread media thumping of the PM’s character, particularly on emissions trading seems to have had an effect — perhaps people really do pay attention to political journalists! Well as long as we don’t tell them, no ego boost needed there…
Meanwhile laying relatively low seems to have worked quite well for Tony Abbott, although many journalists (including The Oz) have noticed Kevin Rudd’s drop saw no corresponding increase for Abbott or his party’s primary vote. Time for a big announcement, preferably not from the hip this time, or just hope that Rudd keeps self-inflicting? Some interesting conversations going on in the Opposition Leader’s office perhaps.
And Malcolm Melba has come back, after a concerted campaign from most right wing commentators to get him to stay — all smacks a little bit of Sally Field if you ask me. But worth it to see the delight on Nick Minchin’s face at the prospect of his return.

It seems being talked about wasn’t such a good thing for the PM this week, copping a hammering on cigarettes, interest rates, mining and the ETS, in that order, while not everyone on talkback was delighted with Malcolm’s return.

A comment that Ms Deveny was happy to retweet seems to sum it up “Deciding to employ Catherine Deveny is debatable but @theage sacking her now is deplorable.” Well, the first bit seems right anyway.
