So I am waiting here at Crikey HQ, waiting for my esteemed colleagues to emerge from the Budget lock up in Canberra.
And from there myself and three of my colleagues here in Melbourne will pump out a special edition of Crikey tonight.
So I am checking out BigFooty and I come across something that may change my waiting hours forever … Collingwood’s Steele Sidebottom has been nominated for Name of the Year and he’s currently fourth behind the brilliantly named Starzanne Stipes, a football player in Ohio’s CoEd Division.
Now apparently this Name of Year has been doing the rounds since 1983 and who am I to question the authenticity of this poll. But should Steele win this it will be the first thing Collingwood has won since Nathan Buckley’s Brownlow Medal in 2003.
Now this is one hell of an illustrious collection of weird and wonderful names. You can check out the entire winners list here.
So for the first time in a long time I’m barracking loudly for something to do with Collingwood.
But, unfortunately, I don’t think Steele’s got anything on 2001 winner Tokyo Sexwhale.
Now that’s a name.
Vote for Steele here.
