The anti-global warming stance of The Australian has been long observed by Crikey. Editor-in-chief Chris Mitchell is a notorious sceptic about the central tenets of greenery (oh, and don’t mention Kyoto or carbon taxes).
So what are we to make of today’s edition of the paper’s uber-glossy Wish lifestyle magazine with its very tropical cover shot of people snorkelling through azure blue waters and the heading “NOW OR NEVER — the Maldives’ sinking islands and other travel wonders you should see before they vanish”?
A look inside at the story shows that not all of these wonders are endangered by climate change, but we do learn that “global warming threatens to lap up 1,190 beautiful islands” in the Maldives, “rising temperatures upset climbers’ plans” to conquer Mt Kilimanjaro, and Mt Blanc is shedding its glacial blanket.
Don’t The Australian’s lifestyle editors read the leader pages?
