Quote of the day:
“There’s no point pretending that it hasn’t been difficult for myself and Therese and the kids… But equally, you know, it’s a pretty basic point that what’s done can’t be undone. And there are bigger things at stake, bigger things than K. Rudd’s future, and that’s the country’s future.” — Former prime minister Kevin Rudd speaking about himself in the third person to Phillip Adams on Late Night Live last night.
During the interview, the first since Rudd was deposed, the member for Griffith denied he was the source of Laurie Oakes’ leaks, confirmed that he would be attending the ALP campaign launch (if he’s up to it) and vowed to keep campaigning for Julia Gillard, adding Tony Abbott did not deserve to be considered “a serious contender”.
That is the boost the Govt need, particularly in Q/land. I listened to the i/v and Kevins done a damn fine thing, regardless of what you think of him. He could have sat back in his own electorate and watch seats around him go to Abbott. Thats not in his makeup. Now let the Coalition attack him. The more they do the bigger the backlash particularly in his home state.
Doubt we will see him till next week, but his going public now can only be a plus for Labor.
His thoughts on the leaking were informative without of course being revealing. Reading between the lines I had the impression he thought the most likely was a Public Servant.
All in all a damn good interview and it certainly did no harm to the Labor cause. Well done KR.
David – I’m more and more thinking the leak was from the Public Service, most likely someone in PM&C. After Rudd’s statement and undertaking, when he’s been the main victim of Gillard, the idea that anyone else in Cabinet hates Gillard so much they’d rather Labor lost the election and let Abbott (one of the great Labor bogie men) be PM I find ludicrous. After Godwin Grech, I think anything’s possible in the present day Public Service.
Malcolm…I’m with you on that thread. I would doubt there will be anymore now that Kevin Rudd has entered the arena? The question mark indicating though, anything can happen I guess.
