Young Lib told to toe the party line. The president of the Young Liberals in Tasmania has been dragged into the office of Liberal Senator Eric Abetz and asked whether he is serious about having a future in the party. The Young Liberal’s crime was to have posted on his Facebook page comments that were complimentary of Denison federal Liberal candidate Cameron Simpkins and her support for gay marriage.
The brass prefer Liberals. Speaking of partisanship on Defence Force bases, during my 37 years of service in the RAAF it was the norm for senior officers to pass the word around that to vote Liberal was the only way to go. I can remember one election (Malcolm Fraser) where the CO of the unit assembled all the SNCOs and forcefully suggested that we vote Liberal at that election. Nothing changes
Mum would love Frydenberg. When I asked why we should vote for Liberal Josh Frydenberg from his Kooyong office, the lady said he’s the kind of guy you could take home to meet your mother. Awwww … What does that mean exactly in terms of policy though?
Politics on campus. Speaking of no mention of the Greens on campus, the RMIT student union (elected under the name “fresh”, and Labor aligned) Environment Collective (who’s chair sat at the Labor stall during O-week) decided not to support, promote or provide funding for Bob Brown’s free public meeting at Storey Hall next week.
