Regarding Paul Sheahan’s contribution on Friday about the conduct of
Melbourne Cricket Club committee meetings, his claimed maximum tenure
of three elections
or nine years is wrong. After all, he has been on the committee since
the late 1980s.

He is correct when he says that “every year, three committee members, one of
the three vice-presidents and the president, have to be put up for
election” but is wrong to claim that there are “formal calls for nomination”.

I suppose he is playing semantics
here, but in reality there is no formal call for nominations. That is,
members are not written to individually and advised when nominations
close. There is no ad in the paper advising members about nominations.
