While
the focus in Sydney radio has been on this week’s soft launch of the new DMG
station, Vega, over at ABC’s 702 there’s something mysterious going
on.
There I
was driving to the pool through the dark streets of Sydney’s inner west at
around 5:45 on Wednesday morning and Simon Marnie, the latest announcer being trialled in the morning
slot, took a call from a listener.
The
listener chit chatted for a short while and then asked Marnie a question about his future and whether he was staying
in the brekkie shift, recently vacated by Angela Catterns, now warbling over on Vega.
He
replied in a jokey fashion something to the effect that he’s heading back to
mornings and that all will be revealed soon.
Then this morning Marnie remarked that a competition run at 7:30pm
will be his penultimate one, meaning he’s off back to the weekends and
someone else is dropping in.
Curious
and a sign that all is not well at 702, with confused decision making and some
blaming ABC Radio head, Sue Howard.
If
there’s another trial then it could be Sarah McDonald, Marnie’s temporary replacement on weekend
mornings.
