A whole album of shots of the damaged Qantas 747-400 that made an emergency landing at Manila on 25 July has arrived. Will Alan Joyce, the new Qantas CEO, keep true to his Jetstar habits in offering special prices for various seat rows, and heavily discount any that are anywhere above the oxygen bottles.
The seat right where the cylinder valve shot up through the floor is the one in pieces near the door that had its handle blown up into the “open” position. Fortunately it wasn’t occupied.

The scary seat was a fold down crew station beside the second main door on the true right hand side facing forward. Inquires show that no passenger seats are directly above the um, seat of the explosion on the main deck. Nobody has been able to produce a guide to the situation in other jets. I have a hunch that the ATSB investigation will come up with some more surprises, and explain why all three ILS or instrument landing systems went off line the moment the pilots heard the explosion.

ILS systems going off-line? Could it be something to do with those pesky cables?
Haven’t flown Qantas for a number of years now. This is reinforcement for continuing to fly VB. They may not be better, but then again, we haven’t seen the number of incidents that have afflicted Qantas of late.
