Are we set for yet another period of Liberal Party instability in the
West with the rumours confirmed that state director Paul Everingham
will stand down from his position in October to take up a role with
energy giant Chevron Texaco.

The kid done well, everyone agrees, brining peace to the bitterly
divided state divisions and putting in a sound position before the
state election. It was just a shame that certain other people had odd
ideas about canals.

Who will his successor be and how will they fare with the volatile WA
Libs? Crikey hears that the name of former come-from-nothing Chris Ellison
staffer and Arnie impersonator Mathias Cormann is being mentioned round
the traps. Interesting. He’s starred in a number of Crikey missives –
and his clear faction links could make for fun.
