Crikey’s out-sourced and highly credible economic commentator Henry Thornton today presents the wildly popular occasional Crikey contributor PP McGuinness on Whitlam, Latham and Beazley.
PP McGuinness writes: “Karl Marx in his political pamphlet The Eighteenth Brumaire of Louis Bonaparte (1852) quotes Hegel as having said that history repeats itself; Marx added, the first time as tragedy, the second as farce. Though often misquoted, it is a perceptive comment on historical repetition. So also with Whitlam and Latham.”
