A new book genre is taking the merry out of Christmas.

Combine the “bitterness of a Marxist tract with the prissiness of a
guide to etiquette, and what do you get?” asks The Economist.
This year’s Christmas
publishing phenomenon. Peruse the tables at your local bookstore, and
it’s “clear that the seasonal sentiment is not levity, which usually
does
well in December, but griping.”
