Ten newsreaders nervous at cuts. The future of Ten’s news reading roster is up in the air, with yesterday’s axing of the Late News the latest in a series of changes to the news line-up. A Crikey reader suggested veteran Ron Wilson may have been a casualty (his 6am bulletin is due to be replaced in 2012 with a new breakfast program) but the network denies he will be cut. A spokesperson said that despite “much speculation” about next year, it was unlikely the changes would result in other redundancies.

There’s no news on Deborah Knight, Ten’s current 5pm newsreader in Sydney, who will make way for Sandra Sully once the late bulletin wraps up. “We’re discussing Deb’s future with her at the moment,” Ten’s spokesperson said.

Can The Oz replace its staff? According to the News Limited (Australia) internal memo on cutbacks, leaked to Crikey earlier this month, “all staff hires, permanent or temporary, will need approval from head office”. So does that mean The Australian can’t replace James Chessell and Tracy Lee and anyone else who might defect/return to The Australian Financial Review under Brett Clegg?

Adelaide church in emergency meeting. Crikey hears the large Adelaide Pentecostal church Coastlands called an emergency meeting for all members to announce what we’re told is a personal matter involving one of its staff. We’ve approached the church for comment.
