While today’s media sideshow is about alleged salary caps rorts, the
real story should be that the NRL has finally conceded the judiciary system
needs review – but not until the end of the season.

And the review will seemingly focus on just one flaw in the system –
the penalties that are imposed as a result of points “accumulated” from prior offences over the last two
seasons being added to the particular offence a player is charged with.

There is one way, and only one way, to fix this mess. And
that’s to revert to judging every case on its merits.

If it’s good enough for the criminal justice system to work on the basis
of judging each case on the facts, then surely it is good enough in
professional sport!
