I like Prince Charles’ suits and the fact that his first car was an MGC (more grunt than the B) – but he clearly can’t hold a candle to Our Mary.
Slumped in front of Sky yesterday it was Frederick and Mary, Frederick and Mary and Frederick and Mary all the time. I didn’t see our future Head of State and his tour get a look in at all.
Nothing like having a stake of our own in the monarchy – any monarchy – it seems, to bring the punters out and get Australians feeling positive. Emeritus Professor Flint and the ACMers should take note and be wheeling up the Aussie babes in front of Prince William, otherwise we’ll become a defacto republic.
PS An observer of the Danish royal tour writes about the Crown Prince and Princess’ appearance in Sydney yesterday: “Not a hat to be seen except the ridiculous electro-lime baseball caps of the NSW constabulary’s finest. The tightly-packed crowd were very positive.”
Perhaps that’s what our supposed monarchy needs to do.
