When he’s not
proposing locking up parents if one tells the other that their little darling
is a terror suspect, Attorney-General Philip Ruddock is working tirelessly on
other ways to protect us from terrorism. This letter is doing the rounds of his
colleagues:

Dear Senator

On 28 August 2005, Geoffrey Robertson QC hosted a “Hypothetical”
program entitled ‘Australia Under Attack’. Panellists included
Parliamentarians and other dignitaries. In discussing possible
terrorist incidents, Geoffrey Robertson asked how panellists would
report information related to terrorism and if they knew the telephone
number of the National Security Hotline. Unfortunately, no one on the
panel knew the Hotline number 1800 123 400.

I attach a leaflet on the National Security Hotline. You may find it
useful to ensure that your staff are also conversant with this
