Nor does Gillard want any ceremonies which ‘mimic’ the marriage ceremony. Ouch. Ten percent of voters with a vested interest may be seriously cheesed off by that crack.

The thing that surprises me is the strength of the religious vote. Of course if religious voters were asked to give a private opinion the outcome would probably be vastly different.
C’mon, the reality is that Gillard is against marriage per se – and she’s really only protecting gays from the horror of a bloody divorce as we see in 50% of straight couples. Lawyers’ field days roll on !
