Crikey is no stranger to publishing a few corrections here and there, but today’s Fin Review had not one, but three clangers to put right in their corrections:
- An article on pages 11 and 14 in the Law Report section of the
AFR Special Report of May 5, 2005, erroneously stated that Adelaide
firm Johnson Winter & Slattery had recruited a team of lawyers from
Ebsworth & Ebsworth. In fact it was another Adelaide firm,
Thompson Playford. Some comments in the article that should have
been attributed to Thompson chief executive Brett Goodridge were
erroneously attributed to a spokesman for Johnson. The errors
were made in the editing process. - An article on page 61 on May 10, “First scalp in ratings war”,
incorrectly reported the entitlements of departing Nine Network chief
executive David Gyngell. Mr Gyngell received no ex gratia
payments. He has been paid his statutory entitlements, being unpaid
salary and annual leave.
Meanwhile Rear Window had thisapology to Paul Carter:
A Rear Window item on May 2 reported that Pricewaterhouse
Coopers partner Paul Carter said at a breakfast seminar that in giving
evidence in the Australian Securities and Investments Commission’s
civil action over One.Tel, he has felt “like a boxer holding his gloves
up in the ring while he was being whacked around by a barrister” and
that he had grumbled about being given “poor instructions from
ASIC.” Rear Window accepts the Mr Carter did not make those
statements and apologises to him for making the error.
