Crikey is riding a new media wave as Australia’s best and most-talked-about independent news and current affairs website. After internal staff changes a rare opportunity has emerged to join our team as the deputy editor.
We’re looking for an outstanding, entrepreneurial journalist, a future leader of the digital media world, to help drive our editorial to new heights.
Interested? You:
… consume Crikey each day. You’re as obsessed by politics, business, media and national affairs, and in tune with the daily news cycle, as we are.
… possess infallible news judgement: you know what works for particular audiences; you can find the new angle; spot the holes in a version of events; flag potential ethical or legal issues.
… understand completely the digital publishing business and online news environment, from website production and social media tools to emerging delivery platforms.
… have proven news production skills, with previous experience managing deadlines, copy flows, editorial budgets, etc.
… can write with flair, eating bad copy for breakfast — your razor-sharp subediting ability and meticulous attention to detail is renowned.
… have a bulging contacts book to feed journalists and commission writers at a moment’s notice, while uncovering and developing new writing talent.
… are a leader, capable of mentoring interns, managing contributors and inspiring a team of in-house journalists to hone their stories, while also liaising with the commercial side of the business.
… can preach what you practice, comfortable speaking to a crowd or taking to the airwaves to promote our stories and products.
