Founding editor Alex Kennedy has left Adelaide’s Independent Weekly, the quality Sunday broadsheet that recently marked its first birthday.
The notoriously plain spoken Kennedy, a former BRW
correspondent and chief-of-staff to Liberal premier John Olsen, is
believed to have rowed with publisher and PR man Paul Hamra over a page
one backdown on an earlier piece on Lion Nathan’s bid for Adelaide icon
Coopers that appeared on the weekend.
The Coopers family wields considerable clout in Adelaide, and the brand is one of the state’s few remaining icons.
Politicians
have been falling over themselves to oppose the takeover. Presumably
parochial Adelaide media believes it should do the same.
