The Glenn Dyer breakdown: Seven’s night because of The X Factor results episode which had just under 1.5 million metro and more than 2.3 million national viewers (down a little from Monday night). Winners & Losers followed X Factor and averaged 1.224 million metro and more than 1.8 million national viewers in another solid performance.
Interestingly, Winners & Losers with 355,000 had a few more viewers than The X Factor in Melbourne which had 350,000. Because W&L is set in Melbourne? Nine News in Melbourne with 402,000 viewers also had more viewers than X Factor. In fact Melbourne has been the only market in Australia that The X Factor hasn’t really dominated. By way of comparison, the program had 500,000 viewers in Sydney last night which made it easily the most-watched program nationally.
The rest of the night was average, although ABC1’s Foreign Correspondent had an excellent look at how ordinary Greeks are coping with their country’s financial collapse and recession. It was quite inspiring, with 644,000 metro and 937,000 national viewers tuning in to watch. It was the story about Greece you rarely read or see.
Ten ran dead with those repeats of NCIS and its LA offspring. Nine’s Incredible Near Misses averaged 693,000 at 7.30 pm in metro markets and a stronger 1.068 million nationally. The fresh episode of The Big Bang Theory averaged a lowish 976,000 at 8.30 pm in metro markets and a stronger 1.402 million nationally. Two and a Half Men and Mike & Molly were late-night flops.
Seven was again very strong in regional markets.
Tonight: The highlight of the week (and especially this time of year?) on ABC1 tonight, A Moody Christmas (it’s Christmas 3). Watch or record this one and then continue with The Chaser’s Hamster Wheel. Nine and Seven have a mixture of second and third string programs. Watch at your peril. Ten has superior fare in Glee (even if its ageing), The Good Wife and the Modern Family repeat at 7pm.
