What The Courier-Mail didn’t report (in its daily gossip section, Q
Confidential) is that the media statement was RE-ISSUED (and the
covering note on the electronic distribution said so, as well as a line
on the actual document) because in the light of a new announcement on
Queensland judges’ salaries, what Senator Santoro had said – in a
speech in the Senate – in February was pertinent to the renewed debate.
That’s the context of it (which I don’t expect you to have understood,
since you aren’t on my email media list). But it was perfectly clear to
everyone who got the release. Of course, ignoring context is the cheap
and easy – and sadly so well trodden – way to get noticed.
Cheers,
Richard Laidlaw
Senior Adviser
Office of Senator Santo Santoro
