Satire warning: it’s all bad. The Daily Telegraph has really outdone itself today …
Daily Telegraph spread (click for a larger version)

Front page(s) of the day. The word is: freedom.

Leering at story typos. We think News.com.au means “Learjet”. A leer jet is just a bit naughty …

Video of the day. There’s been plenty of marriage proposals on live TV, but this news anchor from Huntsville, Alabama, read the news for herself right off the teleprompter …

Was the Telegraph’s satire warning really about the bit at the bottom (not shown in the cropped shot above) – that Costello could actually give any tips about good governing?
Oh, and the Freedom headlines?
With News Ltd crying freedom, it just reminds me of “The Marching Song of the Covert Batallions”:
“For freedom’s just another world for nothing left to sell
…
We help the multi-nationals
When they cry out protect us
The locals scream and shout a bit
But we don’t let that affect us
We’re here to lend a helping hand
In case they don’t elect us
How dare they buy our products
Yet still they don’t respect us”
Owned by one Yank, quoting another – “Our liberty depends on the freedom of the press ….. to be able to abuse it’s privileged position of influence, to do whatever it likes, without fear of accountability”?
Look at the way they’ve “Limited News”.
Perhaps now News Ltd are so serious about “FREEDOM” they will be vociferous in their support for refugees fleeing tyrannical regimes.
After all tens of thousands of Australians died fighting for the cause of freedom in 2 world wars, and various other wars. One consequence of their supreme sacrifice was a global Refugee Convention, to deny dictators as many victims as possible.
It’s the same priceless quality of freedom.
Selectively quoting previous famous politicians? It’s a bit like the arguments used by the US gun lobby quoting their second constitutional amendment?
Jefferson did say that to Currie, January 28, 1786.
Then 31 years later, no doubt with time to refelct reality, and after deeper reflection, to Norvell (June 11 1807?) :- “Nothing can now be believed which is seen in a newspaper. truth itself becomes suspicious by being put into that polluted vehicle.”
Why don’t they use that?
