He’s back! A day after Crikey highlighted Tony Abbott’s former life as a journalist, the Prime Minister has scored another byline — a front-page screamer, no less …
Sick of the cowards? No, that’s not directed at Abbott and his ministerial team for dodging press conferences and serious interviews. It’s daggy dad Tony — “as a father and as a citizen” — expressing his disgust at the “violent binge drinking culture that now seems so prevalent”.
The PM is “sick of the fact that alcohol-fuelled violence has turned places that should be entertainment precincts into ‘no-go zones'”. And fair enough, too. So what’s he going to do about it? Well, nothing, obviously: “I accept that the fundamental responsibility in this area lies with state governments.”
Still, the circle is now complete — after The Daily Telegraph spent much of 2013 campaigning for him, this year it’s just going to have Abbott write its front pages.
Well, they haven’t done absolutely nothing. Why, in response to people being assaulted in Kings Cross, they’ve boldly announced an enquiry into alcohol abuse by indigenous Australians. But hey, it won’t be an enquiry that’s segregated on racial grounds, because “it will examine the role played non-indigenous Australians, in indigenous alcohol abuse”.
I’m also beginning to wonder how much of the ‘alcohol fueled violence’, is actually being perpetrated by bulked up steroid abusers, in the grips of roid rage?
This is a perfect example of News Corp efficiency ie: cut out the middle-man-journo. Nor is any editing required.
And Murdoch acquires a scribe gratis.
I thought it was a joke/irony piece? After the sort of mindset, the thinking, the fights, they promoted?
After “Bernie Banton”, “Roxon/bullshit”; his pugilistic head-kicking as Leader of the House; his industrial manslaughter attacks on Garrett (“showing no regrets, and no remorse …..” over “the batts fiasco”? If he was interested in more than politics; if he was really concerned about “waste of money, lives and the negative impacts on other’s”, surely he’d hold an enquiry into “Why we joined the invasion of Iraq”, in lock-step with Bush, Blair and Murdoch?)?
The bully-boy attack dogs, with his intolerance, intemperance, short-fuse and belligerence now wants “The Rules of Engagement” changed?
He and his handlers want a kinder, gentler world than the environment they promoted to win government? And that major sponsor, that did it’s best to promote the acceptance of the meanness of such behaviour, is going to do it’s darndest to change it and rewrite history, to accommodate such hypocrisy?
Change the rules that proved so effective for their “boy”?
Could alcohol be a gateway drug – to violence? Still, at least it stops all those aggressive dope smokers terrorising our streets with their illegal soporific smiles and laughter.
That is a very sick joke. The blatant bias of the Murdoch press is now on full display. Hopefully the idiot lot who elected the rAbbott, and worst PM in Australian history, will now think again!
