The Block — down, I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here — down, My Kitchen Rules — solid, but within sight of the 2 million national audience. Down around 230,000 from its 2015 debut audience on Monday night which was off around 5% from a year ago. The question is whether it settles around this level, or dips under 2 million and remains there. The Block has taken damage from My Kitchen Rules, I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here has taken damage from The Block and My Kitchen Rules, despite Ten’s claims to the contrary. The big question for the networks and advertisers is where the trio settle for the rest of their seasons.
Tucked away on Gem, (Nine’s second digital channel) last night was a nice little bit of programming, back to back Christies — Poirot then Marple. 5.3% share in the metros and 5.8% in the regions. A nice refuge for viewers not enamoured with the kinds of reality on Ten, Nine and Seven’s main channels, or the ABC’s offerings.
Nine News regained the number one spot in the metros last night. In the morning Sunrise again easily accounted for Today, and Ten’s Studio 10 saw those nice 90,000 – 100,000 figures it was getting in the back half of January and on Monday morning, vanish when Seven’s The Morning Show returned. Studio 10 had 59,000 metro viewers yesterday, on track with its 2014 figures. News Breakfast on the ABC again did well yesterday morning, as did 7.30 last night and ABC News — is that thanks to Tony Abbott and the Liberal National Party’s wriggling nationally, in Queensland and in the Northern Territory? Watching a blood sport with your cornies and toast seem to be the thing for viewers of ABC TV news.
Seven won the night overall and the main channels in both the metros and the regions, but the margins were slimmer than on Monday night. Home and Away is again the lynchpin for Seven — 1.5 million national viewers last night ensures My Kitchen Rules has a decent audience to start with.
