Only three programs of note last night. The Beast (AKA My Kitchen Rules) won the night for Seven with 2.180 million national viewers,  assisted by a solid effort from Criminal Minds with more than 1.36 million national viewers. The other two (confused? Well, Criminal Minds was only an assist, not a standout performer) were the penultimate episode of Shaun Micallef’s Mad As Hell and the third and final episode of Stop Laughing This is Serious, both on ABC. Mad As Hell had 1.059 million national viewers and Stop Laughing This is Serious had 1.030 million. Both were standouts and I’m sorry Mad As Hell ends for the year next Wednesday. Barry Humphries stole the series.

Nine rested The Block last night (its on next Wednesday night) Perhaps it had run out of triple threats for the week? For Ten it was back to normal transmission. The Project did well from 6.30 to 7.30pm, averaging 787,000 national viewers for the hour. Wonderland at 8.30pm managed 508,0000 national viewers, was isn’t good. If it was any good or could be resurrected, it would make an interesting strip soap for Ten. Home and Away again dominated the 7pm slot for Seven with 1.390 million national viewers — 847,000 metro and 543,000 regional viewers. The metro figures are down a bit this year, the regional support for the veteran soapie remains very solid.

Tonight, watch The Checkout on ABC. It’s the most innovative program on TV, and excellent TV.
