Glenn Dyer reports:
The Winners |
Tuesday and Dancing with the Stars (2.1 million average) blitzed the field last night and gave Seven a convincing win, taking it to the lead in the week, such was the size of its winning margin. That was its largest season audience, beating series one and two. It dragged All Saints (1.422 million) along in its wake. Home and Away (1.561 million) continued to blitz Nine’s Temptation (1.281 million) in the 7pm time slot. Seven News and Today Tonight had narrow wins because of Perth. Nine’s top program was A Current Affair with 1.341 million, Nine News averaged 1.32 million and from then on it was downhill for the rest of the night. Ten also got a hammering, which was to be expected. |
The Losers |
Hmmm, Frasier on Nine, one new episode, one old and it |
News & CA |
Seven won but Nine had a better night, although the battle at 6pm in Sydney remains just as one-sided. Seven News won 366,000 to 297,000 for Nine. That was the second night in a row Nine News had been under 300,000 viewers in Sydney. But A Current Affair bounced back to beat Today Tonight in Sydney. Nine won Melbourne and Brisbane and Adelaide. Only the huge 100,000 to 120,000 margins in Perth secured the wins nationally for Seven between 6pm and 7pm. |
The Stats |
Seven with 35.6% to 26.1% for Nine. Ten was on 21.6%, the ABC on 12.4% and SBS on 4.3%. Nine finished third in Adelaide and Perth with Ten second to Seven. Seven had big margins of five points or more everywhere bar Brisbane where it won by 2.4%. |
Glenn Dyer’s comments |
With no football on Sunday night to give it a lead, Nine has fallen behind Seven after last night in the weekly battle for supremacy and bragging rights next Sunday. Seven leads 29.0% to 27.8% and it leads in Sydney, Brisbane and Perth. Nine leads Melbourne and Adelaide. Tonight it’s the battle of McLeod’s and Beyond Tomorrow at 7.30pm. Ten will do well with House at 8.30pm, Blue Heelers will sag and Australian Princess at 7.30pm on Ten, is another version of McLeod’s Daughters on Nine if you think about it, especially with the steady rise in blokes on McLeod’s. |
