Just a waste of a night really, except for Masterchef Australia (don’t like eliminations on a Thursday night though) and the Masterclass. The Footy Show (NRL) on Nine was weak. Arnold Schwarzenegger as all round the place (isn’t he a spruiker for REA.com as well as a former governor of California and a movie thingie?). Talk about free kicks and being star struck.
In the morning Today fell behind Sunrise for yet another morning 322,000 metro viewers to 270,000 for Today. Contract talks are supposed to be happening with Nine and Karl and Lisa. Those heady days of two wins in a row last week are firmly behind Nine. Despite all the money paid to Karl and Lisa and Sam and Kochie (at Sunrise), the best performing breakfast hosting pair are Michael Rowland and Virginia Trioli (who has really hit her straps in this slot and turned it into her own) on the ABC’s News Breakfast. In fact the whole team of Weather Woman, Vanessa O’Halloran and Sports Guru, Paul Kennedy (a more than good stand in for Michael Rowland last month) are by far the strongest hosting group on TV at the moment. But going commercial would kill their cred for most of their audience, but it would expose commercial TV audiences to a very different group.
Nine won the night in the metros, Seven in the regions, again. Ten was third in both areas, and the ABC 4th. Ten’s audience remains up sharply from 2014 (which undewrliens what a disaster last year and 2013 were for the network. Thanks Lachie!)
