Hear ye, hear ye. A tipster tells us that this flyer was sent out to residents of LNP MP Mal Brough’s electorate of Fisher recently. The locals were informed through a “national security update” that ASIO had more than 400 high-priority terrorist investigations on the go, and “our agencies” had thwarted three terrorist plots already this year. It also warns against the internet, as “the online environments has no borders. Propaganda is reaching directly into our homes and families through the internet and social media”. With subtle bold print there’s only a faint whiff of using fear to drive votes.

Who should I vote for?
Mal Brough is one chap you would like to see ejected unceremoniously at the next election, although to his credit I believe he is one of the small group of LNP pollies in favour of marriage equality…
Faced with terrible opinion polls, two housing bubbles, and a budget that isn’t getting balanced under an incredibly lazy and incompetent treasurer, the LNP went for a full on fear campaign over the last few weeks to help improve their popularity. It hasn’t worked. The LNP are still on track for a disastrous election and Tony’s personal approvals rating continues to plummet.
Fear and Loathing was plan A. Given that good governance is obviously out of the question, I can’t even imagine what their Plan B is.
And his positive vision and future passion for his electorate and Australia is?
Mal Brough is not in favour of marriage equality. He has taken the position that the decision is too important for a “politician to make”. He is organising a community process (yet undefined) to gauge the community’s feeling.
