Unfortunately for Nine and good ole Dazza Somers, TV viewers left the room in drove during the second night of You’re Back In The Room: the program that was going to change Nine’s worst start to ratings for a decade. You’re Back In The Room lost more than 22% of viewers last night. Seven broadcast a serious episode of My Kitchen Rules, and won the night, putting Nine back in the loser’s box.

MKR had 1.915 million national viewers, second behind Seven News with 1.937 million. You’re Back In The Room had 1.280 million, lower than a week earlier. It didn’t help 60 Minutes which lost a third of You’re Back in The Room’s audience to average 963,000. Seven’s Sunday Night with the exclusive interview with Kerri-Anne Kennerley won easily with 1.574 million viewers.

ABC’s Insiders easily won the mornings with 359,000 metro and 537,000 national viewers on the ABC and News 24.

Nine was in fact ambushed by a combination of the thrilling end to the Hawthorn-Western Bulldogs AFL game (the Hawks won by three points in a see-sawing match). That boosted Seven News to the top of the pile in metros, regionals and nationally, with My Kitchen Rules second and Sunday Night fourth. Seven News in Melbourne with 432,000 viewers (the AFL game averaged 261,000 in Melbourne alone), second after the 442,000 who watched MKR in Sydney. The NRL game boosted Nine News in Sydney and Brisbane, but not as much as the AFL boost for Seven News.

As a result it was end of night for Nine. Darryl Somers’ goofiness and the public humiliation of the “contestants” could not help this sad sack program, or Nine, by keeping viewers in the same numbers as the debut night. Ten was thrashed by the ABC for third. In fact Ten’s main channel share in the metros of 8.1% recalled some of its poor performance in 2014. In regional markets Seven News was tops last night with 611,000 viewers; MKR had 600,000′ Sunday Night, 580,000; Nine News, 485,000 and ABC News was fifth with 428,000 people.

ABC’s Insiders easily won the mornings with 359,000 metro and 537,000 national viewers on the ABC and News 24.

Nine’s Today  won the metro breakfast last week by the closest of margins: 1000 viewers, 324,000 to 323,000. Best showing for weeks by Sunrise.

Nine and the ABC mark the 20th anniversary of the Port Arthur massacre tonight: The ABC with an episode of Australian Story, Nine with a “special” report from A Current Affair.
