Seven won in metros and regionals with just two programs: Home and Away and My Kitchen Rules. Downton Abbey’s final episode next week meant the network missed the post-MKR dominance which was last night filled by another night of great swimming from the Australian titles and Olympic trials. That didn’t do as well as Downton Abbey in the ratings, but it is an investment by Seven in its Olympics coverage later in the year.

MKR had 1.978 million national viewers and 1.356 million in the metros. Married At First Sight had 1.259 million (steady on last week) and 874,000 metro viewers. That was wasted up against MKR. Four Corners’ report on Clive Palmer did very well, with 1.369 million national viewers for the second solid audience in a row after last week’s report on Panama hats, sorry shells and tax. Four Corners had a very good regional audience as well. Media Watch benefited and had a high 1.154 million national viewers — the interview with Gerald Ryle over the Panama papers story was good, as was the piece on 60 Minutes in Lebanon.

In the regions MKR topped the most watched list with 622,000; Home and Away had 538,000; The Chase Australia 5.30pm, 466,000, Four Corners, 437,000 and Nine News, 433,000.

At breakfast, last week’s burst faded for Sunrise — back to being well beaten by Today, 334,000 to 295,000.
