The government announced this morning that Telstra Health has won the contract to manage a new national cancer screening register from next year, meaning that patient health records will be under corporate management. It’s interesting timing for the announcement, seeing as the tender for “a robust IT solution based support system for the expanded National Bowel Cancer Screening Program, the renewed National Cervical Screening Program, and potentially future cancer screening programmes” closed on October 8 last year. Telstra has also had issues with data breaches, leaving customers’ data exposed. We’re hoping this contract — reportedly worth $108 million — includes better data management.
