Economist and New York Times columnist Paul Krugman highlights a scary Harris Poll statistic about the way history is being rewritten. In February last year, 36% of Americans believed Iraq had weapons of mass destruction when the US and friends invaded. Now, 50% believe it – and 64% believe Saddam Hussein had strong links with Al Qaeda.

Krugman tries to explain how the people running America manage not to accept inconvenient truths and in the process gives some of the credit to Rupert Murdoch’s Fox News. So it looks like Krugman wasn’t invited to Rupert’s weekend Californian party, which coincides with a British report that Tony Blair will be offered a job on the News Corp board when he steps down as British PM.

The SMHrepeats British press reports that a job for Tony is on the cards after Rupert gave a directorship to the former Spanish Prime Minister Jose Marie Aznar. Both, of course, were prominent members of the coalition of the willing in Iraq.

At least Blair, who was a guest speaker at the annual Murdoch executive knees-up, should have no trouble fitting in with the News Corp board’s corporate governance ethics.
