Crikey’s favourite motoring editor (see story here), Paul Pottinger from the Sunday Telegraph,
has been at it again. A tipster emailed Crikey to say that Pottinger
had lost his license for travelling at 158km/h in a 90km/h zone. But
we’re pleased to report that the motoring editor of Australia’s biggest
selling paper only copped a speeding ticket and won’t be confined to
the office paperwork for the next few months.
Initially Pottinger was rather abrasive towards little ‘ol Crikey, telling us we had the “veracity of the Weekly World News” and demanding we “send me your f*cking email d*ckhead and we’ll take it point by point.”
So we did, and he was a lot more accommodating and apologetic the
second time around. He cleared up the record, telling us that although
his wallet was lighter it still held his license, and that there are
plenty deal more motoring journos whose licenses are in worse shape
than his.
But
it was this rather eloquent take on his colleagues that amused us.
“With all too few exceptions, the motor writer fraternity has the
characteristics of a playground full of particularly pernicious
children coupled with those of a lodge for menopausal males.”
We believe you, Paul.
