Seven won on a night of average offerings, except for Ten’s MasterChef Australia with 1.29 million. Nine was second, boasting about how its news was tops in Sydney and Melbourne, but not in Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and regional Australia. Nine didn’t highlight the latest average performance from Doctor Doctor — 744,000 is a long way from the one million figures from a couple of seasons ago.

Seven’s hour of news from 6pm beat Nine’s hour by around 460,000 — a thumping. ABC News again clearly won the 7pm slot with 1.26 million, from a noticeably weaker ACA with 1.07 million and Seven’s Home and Away with 1.05 million.

The most interesting result was the weakening trend for Today and lead host Karl Stefanovic — its metro audience dipped back under 200,000 to 197,000 for the first time since the COVID-19 crisis started in March. Its national audience was hovering just above 300,000 yesterday. It has been falling for the past two weeks.

Seven’s Sunrise remains solid — 522,000 national viewers and 303,000 in the metros. ABC News Breakfast is now a clear second in breakfast — 363,000 nationally and 240,000 in the metros. Nine didn’t boast about that performance from yesterday, but it’s a sign the experiment in returning Karl Stefanovic to Today is back on the serious mistake list.

In the regions, Seven News had 706,000, Seven News 6.30 had 656,000, The Chase Australia 5.30pm had 445,000, Home and Away had 402,000, and 7pm ABC News had 389,000.
