What did we say yesterday?
“This was supposed to be the period of untrammelled power for the
Government, of complete dominance of the agenda but things aren’t going
according to the script – as Telstra and industrial relations details
amply demonstrate.”

Things couldn’t be going worse on Telstra, and the Government can only look bad, no matter what way it moves.

Not
proceeding with the Telstra bills would be an admission that there are
problems. And pushing on with them says the Government is ignoring
these problems.

Labor has further information on the telco to drop today, after yesterday’s Question Time bombshells.

They’ve already upped the ante this morning with Opposition Leader Kim Beazley attempting to suspend
parliamentary proceedings to stop the Government from introducing bills
to sell its majority stake in Telstra until the ASIC investigation into
the carrier is complete

The Government has used its numbers to gag Beazley, but stay tuned for an interesting Question Time today.

Communications Minister Helen Coonan dobbed in plenty of people on AM this morning, Labor sources say.

After
nine years of trying, the Government looks as if it will be able to
finally get the legislation for the sale of all of Telstra through the
Parliament this sitting fortnight – only to discover its problems are
just beginning.
