We all get things wrong sometimes. Today Crikey starts a series on some of the predictions of 2006 (including our own) that went awry:

“There are two scenarios – Howard hands over smoothly to his anointed successor, Peter Costello, or the Treasurer confronts Howard and goes to the backbench to launch a renewed leadership campaign.” – Glenn Milne, Daily Telegraph, 18 December 2005

“I predict that Iraq won’t have a civil war, that it will have a viable constitution, and that a majority of Iraqis and Americans will, in two years time, agree that the war was worth it. I’ll bet $1,000”. – Jonah Goldberg,  The National Review

 “There is no plan to challenge Beazley…Beazley will probably lead until Christmas and into next year” – Paul Daly, The Bulletin, 20 November 2006

“In my view, if interest rates are adjusted at all this year, the next move will be down rather than up.” – John Hewson, AFR, 3 March 2006 

“I’ve been sure England are going to win the World Cup for the last 18 months.” – Alan Shearer on the BBC

“[The National Party] will lose three upper house seats, not one, and if they win Morwell I will eat my Crikey T-shirt.” – Crikey psephologist Charles Richardson (pictured below) predicting the outcome of the Victorian election in January
