In last
Friday’s sealed section we pointed out the hypocrisy of News Ltd’s Sydney Daily Telegraph in calling for censorship of
free to air TV programs because of the “tarting up” of
the Ten Network’s Big Brother. No
mention of News’ conflicts of interest or those of the politicians making the
call.
Nowhere
is this double speak and hypocrisy more evident than the News.com.au website where there is a permanent link to Big
Brother stories on the front page, stories like this from last night’s eviction
episode(https://entertainment.news.com.au/story/0,10221,15889243-10229,00.html).
News
Ltd made sure that its website hacks stayed up late last night an update to date
story on the site to meet any traffic, which gives News money from visitors and
advertisers.
No now
we have the absurdist situation of the Sydney Daily Telegraph calling for
censorship of a Free To Air TV program that could very
well cost the company money, as well as be rejected by the other papers in the
group.
In its
eagerness to exploit Big Brother for its own crass commercial ends, the Tele and
tyro editor, David Penberthy have tripped over their
own feet. Nice wone, Dave!
