Electorate analysis: Waterford covers Logan City suburbs on the western side of the Pacific Motorway, from Meadowbrook south to Beenleigh and Waterford. It was held comfortably for Labor by Tom Barton from its creation in 1992 until his retirement in 2006, when he was succeeded by Evan Moorhead of the Left faction Australian Manufacturing Workers Union. The closest result was in 1998 when One Nation outpolled the Liberals 29.2 per cent to 24.5 per cent, finishing 5.2 per cent short after preferences. One Nation again came second in 2001, but the two-party margin blew out to 18.0 per cent.
