Electorate analysis: This electorate in Melbourne’s outer northern suburbs has been held for Labor by double digit margins since its creation in 1992, when it replaced the similarly safe seat of St Albans. Alex Adrianopolous was succeeded upon his retirement in 2002 by his electorate officer Lily D’Ambrosio, who had previously been an official for the Australian Services Union. Both are members of the Socialist Left faction. D’Ambrosio was promoted to parliamentary secretary after the 2006 election and then to cabinet in January 2010 as Community Development Minister upon the resignation of Altona MP Lynne Kosky, a move that maintained cabinet’s existing factional and gender balance.
